For his commision at Oude Kerk, Christian Boltanski created a labyrinth of looming black volumes that disorient the visitor from the moment they walk into the church. Inside the maze, visitors are greeted by various existing works from Boltanski's oeuvre. Strange cloaked figures ask you how you would like to die. Winter coats without owners lie strewn across the cold church floor. What does it mean to be mortal? Do we know what we will leave behind?
